Read Across America

 March 2025

Read Across America Day is more than a celebration of books—it’s an opportunity to ignite young minds and cultivate a lifelong love of reading. For Jean, literacy was a passion she infused into every classroom and every chance to inspire her students.

During her time teaching at HHS, Jean wholeheartedly embraced Read Across America Day, often dressing as the beloved Cat in the Hat and leading her Spanish Club students in reading to elementary school children throughout the city. She believed that literacy opened doors, created opportunities, and empowered young learners to dream bigger.

This year, in honor of Jean’s dedication to education and her unwavering belief in the power of books, the scholarship fund proudly donated a Dr. Seuss book to every HPS kindergarten classroom. We hope that through this small gesture, we can continue her mission of inspiring young readers, sparking curiosity, and reminding students that their imagination can take them anywhere.

As we celebrate Read Across America Day, we encourage everyone to pick up a book, share a story, and take a moment to reflect on the educators who have shaped our lives. Jean’s legacy lives on in every page turned, every story read aloud, and every child who discovers the joy of reading.
