2025

This past year marked the second year of the Jean Ray Scholarship Fund, a continuation of the values that mattered most to Jean: education, generosity, and showing up for others in quiet but meaningful ways. The work of the fund is made possible through the generosity and care of the community that supports it.

Scholarship support expanded this year, with three recipients each receiving $750, an increase from $500 in previous years. Expanding the scholarship amounts was an important step and aligned with Jean’s belief in supporting students as they work toward their goals.

One of Jean’s favorite traditions during her time as Spanish Club advisor was leading her students to local elementary schools for Read Across America, dressed as the Cat in the Hat. This year, we reprised her role, costume and all, donating books and reading the Dr. Seuss classic to a local classroom, continuing her tradition and celebrating her love of literacy.

Honoring Jean’s spirit of generosity and care for others, we supported moments that celebrate and uplift the community. We donated flowers to Haverhill High’s Cinderella’s Closet for prom, helping students feel special during an important milestone. Celebrating one of Jean’s favorite days, we supported the Santa Parade food drive, bringing holiday meals to local families and assisting area food pantries. In keeping with this spirit, through our partnership with Mishstrong, we spread holiday cheer and encouragement to children in foster care, providing gifts and reminding them that they are seen and valued.

The annual golf tournament fundraiser was a highlight of the year and a tremendous success, reflecting the generosity of the community and the strong support behind the fund. Held on what would have been Jean’s 72nd birthday, the tournament provided a meaningful way to remember her while continuing the work she cared deeply about.

As the year comes to a close, we are deeply grateful to everyone who has contributed time, resources, and support. Through these efforts, Jean’s generosity and spirit continue to make a real difference in the lives of students and families in our community.
